LIBRARY SERVICES AND FACILITIES

a. Lending Service (Issue and Return) using RFID:
The library provides book lending service to the students and staff members. All the students are entitled to become member of this library. With integration and implementation of RFID in the library, Self-Check in/Check Out service is provided through RFID system to save time of the users.

b. Kiosk Terminal for Electronic Resources:
To facilitate access to the library's electronic resources, a Kiosk terminal has been installed on the ground floor. This terminal allows users to access e-newspapers, e-books, e-journals, and to use the web OPAC for locating library books.

c. Book Bank Facility
The library has a Book Bank and Students Aid Fund Section for lending text books to the students belonging to Socio-Economically Disadvantaged Groups (SEDGs).

d. Book Location Service
The library staff is always ready to assists the students and faculty members in finding the desired reading material. Students may contact the reference desk near the entrance.

e. Reservation of Books
Books in great demand and which are not on the shelves generally under issue can be got reserved by the students by filling Reservation Slips available at the circulation counter. The library will inform the member as soon as the book is available electronically through e-mail or SMS as the case may be.

f. New Arrivals Display
Every fortnight some selected newly added books to the library are displayed on the New Arrivals Stacks near the counter. Also, a list of 'New Arrivals' is circulated among the faculty members on regular basis. The purpose is bringing the newly added books to the notice of the users.

g. Photocopying service
Faculty can avail the facility of photocopy of limited number of pages on academic purpose only. The library helps in providing photocopies of articles/ text to the faculty members from the documents available in the library.

h. Online Public Access Catalog (OPAC)
Online public Access Catalogue (OPAC) provides information about books available in the library. It can be accessed through library software NETTLIB. Users can access through author, title, subject etc. The assistance about how to use the OPAC is also available from the staff.
Now the entire library collection can also be searched through web OPAC. The link for the search is http://sggscclibrary.saraswatilib.com. The main page search access required user ID and password. User ID : “student roll no”; Password : “student roll no”. It facilitates a user to browse entire library’s collection with ease and promptness. Books in Hindi, Punjabi can also be searched. The Users can search books through cell phone, laptop, desktop computer etc. The students can now be able to reserve the book. Teachers can recommend the book through link provided. The documents can be searched by author, title, subject etc.

i. Newspaper clipping service
The library is maintaining a record of newspaper clippings on important subjects and of various activities related to the college as well as University.

j. Content Page Service
Library is providing a photocopy of content pages of important journals subscribed by the library to faculty members.

k. Reference Service
Users’ satisfaction is the ultimate goal of the library. To save the time of the user, trained library staff effectively and efficiently provide assistance to all its users in locating the required library resources both physically and digitally by answering their enquiries about the library to fulfil their information.

l. Ask your librarian service
Library users can email their queries related to SGGSCC Library to: rekhadevi@sggscc.ac.in. Notices are being sent to students through mobile application “smartprof ”.

m. Suggestion Box Service
The SGGSCC Library welcomes and encourages every user to let us know how to improve the library services. Students can send us their Suggestions through Suggestion box places within and outside library.

n. Orientation Programmes
At the beginning of each new session, the college conducts an orientation program for incoming students to provide them with essential insights into college life. During these sessions, students receive a brief overview of the library’s resources and facilities to help them become familiar with the services available. Additionally, library orientation sessions are conducted upon special request, either for individuals or groups, to further assist in accessing the library resources and services.

o. Internet with Wi-Fi facility
Internet access with Wi-Fi facilities is provided to the faculty members and students free of cost.

p. Research Support Facility
To boost the research among college faculties, library provide plagiarism check facility using Turnitin software. Faculties can email their research articles on rekhadevi@sggscc.ac.in and get the Plagiarism report for their respective article in no time.

q. Inter Library Loan
The library is a member of DELNET. Through DELNET, library offers Inter Library Loan (ILL) service to the users and supplements its stock by obtaining materials from other libraries on demand from the users.

r. Faculty Reading Area
Special reading area with cubicles is created on 2nd floor of the library for faculties and staff to do work related to teaching and research. A designated reading area with cubicles has been created on the second floor of the library for faculties and staff to engage in teaching, learning and research.

s. Facilities for Differently-abled
Library provides wheelchair facility for differently abled users and printed braille book for visually impaired users. To access electronic resources library also provides the following ICT infrastructure for visually challenged users:

Hardware and software Laptop (Lenovo) Installed with following software:

  • * JAWS (Job Access with Speech), software: A popular option, which was originally developed for MSDOS, but is now available for Microsoft Windows. JAWS allows users to read the screen with a text-to-speech output or through a refreshable Braille display to help disabled people to access the laptops
  • * Lex software (V1.4.0)) - for Scanning
  • * ABBYY FineReader: is an optical character recognition (OCR) system. It is used to convert scanned documents, PDF documents, and image documents (including digital photos) into editable/searchable documents
  • * Non-Visual Desktop Access (NVDA): is a free, open-source, portable screen reader for Microsoft Windows. Visually impaired students can read the book by first scanning it, OCRing it and then using screen reading software to read it.
